We’ve reached Singapore….
Our trip started EARLY, we had to get up at 4.30am, get dressed and off we went to the airport. We both felt like walking zombies but after having a cup of coffee before boarding the flight we started to feel human again.
This first leg of our trip we flew with Singapore Airlines and it was as good as we’ve heard. The flight was 7 and a bit hours but it felt way shorter than that. Both Suzie and I are used to travelling alone so the fact that we now had someone to spend the time with really made a difference (and of course the inflight entertainment also helped…..that is the movies on Demand, don’t think of anything else ;))
We landed at Changi airport, went through Immigration, picked up our luggage without a problem and were met by Suzie’s friend Caitlyn.
We caught a Cab to her place, got settled and went down to the pool almost straight away to cool off. Not that the water temp was very cool but anyways….it was refreshing.
Later that night we all went out, the two of us, Caitlyn, Gareth (her husband) and Caitlyn’s parents, and had Mexican down by Clarke Quay. A lot of Fajitas and frozen margaritas later we rolled down the esplanade along Singapore river seeing some of the sights and lights at night. We went to the most photographed place in Singapore to see the Merlion and of course had to take some photos as well.
Our second day we started out by going down to the pool again, as soon as we woke up, better than a shower I tell you (even though all the chlorine means that we have to take a shower anyways….damn it).
After brunch (well, late breakfast anyways) we left and went to Chinatown where we walked and had a look at all the crap that can be bought cheaply. Also found some camera shops and while I was at it I bought a new memory card for my camera, a 1gb card for around $70 Singapore, not too bad….
While we were shopping a storm came through and flooded the place, the rain was comming down so hard that we thought it was going to be over in about 10mins….well, 30mins later we’re still standing there waiting to cross over to the other side of the road. We’re almost ready to cross and lightning hits pretty much right in front of us with an enormous thunderclap….almost scared the crap out of us (just as well it litteraly didn’t since the loos in this area aren’t the best ones….squat and all of that u know =))
We had planned to see Little India as well but because of the rain we decided to leave that to another day.
