Summer Holidays in Sydney

Sydney

Sydney was out home for many years before our move to the country and we love coming back to visit. On this occasion we were given the opportunity to house-sit in Sydney whilst the owners were overseas and we jumped on the occasion to spend a few summer days in the city.

The trip to Sydney itself went great… we have now done this trip so many times that both the adults and the young ones have gotten used to it and know the stops we normally take.

Whilst in Sydney we decided to start our holiday with a visit to Luna Park which we haven’t visited in a while. Of course, in order to get there you can either face Sydney traffic or try the services of City Rail and hopefully get there (many many years of experience of the rail services after previously living in Sydney).

At Luna Park we met up with some family as Zilia and her kids were there to spend the day with us. Eventually the kids (or maybe just the adults) reached the limit on how much more fun could be had and we all finished up having some snacks and drinks near the train station before we all say our goodbyes and went on our separate ways.

Over the next few days we made a few days trips around Sydney. We travelled all the way to Newport, Mona Vale and Manly across the Northern Beaches where we enjoyed beautiful views and good beers and food.

On another day we treated ourselves to a twenty20 cricket match in the Big Bash League between Sydney 6ers and Brisbane Heat. Eloise was enjoying the game and was right into it, cheering when 4s and 6s were had. Xander on the other hand got bored not long into the start of the game. Either way, it was a fun night with the local team winning the match!

In order to get ourselves a nice beach fix we decided to make it a full day to Bundeena via Ferry from Cronulla. Driving to Cronulla however turned out to be a bit of a mission, we got stuck in traffic and didn’t think we would actually be able to catch the ferry but by some luck we managed to find free parking and after a nice run even made the ferry.

We had a great day in Bundeena and eventually made our way to the pier to start lining up for the ferry back to Cronulla. As we’re lining up we can see this massive plume of smoke coming in from behind up from behind us. A few checks show that apparently there is a local bush fire happening at that exact moment. We get on the ferry and make it across and see lines and lines of people wanting to catch the ferry across. Apparently the roads have been closed and the only way to the Bundeena area is through the ferry. We again got lucky that we didn’t get stuck behind the lines…

The remainder of our stay in Sydney we spent catching up with friends and visiting a few other beaches (no more ferries this time however).

We had a great holiday in Sydney this time, it was great to have our ‘own’ place whilst visiting and we know we will be back for more…
