Back in Singapore again!
Our trip to Singapore was initially just planned as a quick stopover on our way to and from Legoland Malaysia, but knowing how much fun we had when we visited here back in 2006 and also how much we knew had changed, we decided to spend a few days to property enjoy it!
After arriving in the afternoon from Malaysia, we checked into our hotel and straight after that headed out to explore the Marina. We quickly found out that with ‘Grab’ we could easily book a cheap transport option for the four of us (and we only found out later that with a young child we should have booked a taxi…. more on that later).
We made it down to the Marina where we strolled and showed the kids around the Merlion and got our first view of the Marina Bay Sands which is an impressive building in itself.
For dinner, we decided to visit the Hawker place near the Gardens by the bay, and again because it was so cheap, we caught another ‘Grab’ there (have to mention that I actually had an easier time finding free WiFi in Thailand than here in Singapore… lucky there’s a McDonalds or Starbucks around every corner that offers free WiFi).
After a great local dinner (love the Hawkers stalls) we made our way to the centre of the Gardens by the bay in order to wait for the the light show.
There were lots of people everywhere and we had initially planned to get on top of the trees, however with the long lineups and with the chance that we might miss out, we just did what everyone else seemed to be doing, which was to lie down on the ground and just wait for the ‘Garden Rhapsody’ to start. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely, it was a great light spectacle that went on for about 15 minutes accompanied by some impressive music.
The only downside, if any, was that once the light show was finished it was impossible to catch any form of transport as there were sooo many people everywhere. Ah well, we ended up doing a walk through the park and back to the Marina before we found our way back to the hotel.
The next day we made our way across to Sentosa Island on top of the cable car which provided great views of the city and harbour. Once there we strolled along the beach area and then treated the kids to a few runs on the Luge (not sure who was enjoying this more, us or them…).
That evening we caught up with some friends in Singapore and found out that we should be using a ‘normal’ taxi as the ‘Grab’ ones officially can’t take young children without child seats (kind of like ‘Uber’ here I guess). Ah well, what you don’t know I guess….
On our last day, we strolled around Chinatown for a while and also spent some time at the ‘Buddha Tooth Relic Temple’ before we crossed the road and had some great hawkers meals again!
Our holiday had eventually come to an end and we made our way to Singapore Airport, which has to be the best in the world. It’s efficient, clean, has great food options and just has a great vibe about it. The only negative part about our trip home was that we had to once again go home via Kuala Lumpur which after Singapore airport, feels like an airport stuck in the 90’s.
All in all we had a great holiday and whilst it didn’t last that long, it gave us enough time to relax in Thailand, enjoy ourselves at the Legoland and ended up with some city sightseeing!
