A short visit to Luzern
We left Sweden (after being dropped off at the airport by Tio Clifton) and landed in Zurich on our first ever trip to Switzerland. We didn’t however spend any time in Zurich and caught the train directly to Luzern and after a short 45min ride, we arrived at our destination.
After checking into our hotel (The Ibis Styles Luzern City), we left to explore the city and started by walking along the Promenade Luzern which offered amazing views of the boats, the lake and the surrounding mountains in the distance.
We walked along the promenade and made out way to the Chapel Bridge, the Kapellbrücke, probably the most famous landmark in the city of Luzern. This is a wooden covered footbridge that spans the river Reuss. We walked along the bridge, looking at the paintings which apparently date back to the 17th century.
After crossing the bridge, which offered greats views over the city of Luzern, we walked past the Jesuit Church St Francis Cavier and crossed the Rathaussteg bridge to take us to the Old Town of Luzern. We wandered along the old buildings, seeing the decorations on the outside of the buildings before we settled for dinner.
After dinner we continued walking along Old Town, walked across the Reussbrücke and eventually made out way back towards the Chapel Bridge and found a local brewery, Rathaus Brauerei, where Suz and I tried some of their beers whilst the kids had some ice creams.
The following morning we walked to the Löwendenkmal, the Lion Monument which commerates the lost lives of the Swiss mercenaries during the French revolution. Not long after this, we returned to our hotel, collected our bags and made our way to the train station to catch our train to Lauterbrunnen.
Luzern was a great introduction to Switzerland and having more time we would have love to explore the city and the nearby mountains as well, so maybe we just have to return.
